Asian stock markets rise after BOJ decision

Asia-Pacific stocks were mostly higher on Wednesday despite the Bank of Japan saying it would not make any changes to its yield curve control policy. Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 2.37% to lead the gains in the region. The Topix rose 1.46%. The Japanese yen fell 2.04% against the dollar after the decision was announced and was last traded at 130.35. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index fell 0.19% and the Hang Seng Tech Index was down 0.43%. Mainland China's Shanghai Composite was flat and the Shenzhen Component rose 0.11%. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.23%. The Kospi lost 0.64%. Overnight in the U.S., major stock indexes fell as investors struggled to maintain momentum into early 2023.
