Apple wants to focus on manufacturing in India

India’s Commerce Minister said Apple wants to manufacture 25 percent of its iPhones in India. India’s Commerce Minister said on Monday that Apple plans to manufacture 25 percent of all its iPhones in India. “[Apple] already manufactures about 5-7 percent of its products in India. If I am not mistaken, they are aiming to go up to 25 percent of their production,” India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said. An Apple spokesman declined to comment. Last year, Apple began assembling its flagship iPhone 14 in India. It is the first time the Cupertino, California-based tech giant has manufactured its latest model in India so close to its launch. Apple has been making iPhones in India since 2017, but they are mostly older models. JPMorgan analysts said in a September note that Apple could manufacture 25 percent of all iPhones worldwide in India by 2025.
