Asian stock markets mixed

Asian stock markets were mostly mixed on Monday ahead of economic data releases. Asia-Pacific markets were mixed on Monday as investors awaited a raft of economic data due later in the week, including the U.S. Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) minutes. The People's Bank of China left one- and five-year interest rates unchanged, as expected. The Shenzhen Component rose 0.5 percent, while the Shanghai Composite rose 0.8 percent. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index rose 0.16 percent and the Hang Seng Tech index rose 0.39 percent. In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 was flat as the minutes of the Reserve Bank of Australia's meeting are due to be released on Tuesday. Japan's Nikkei 225 was down marginally at the open on Monday, and the Topix rose 0.24 percent. In South Korea, the Kospi rose 0.41 percent and the Kosdaq rose 1.48 percent. Stocks on Wall Street were mixed Friday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average up more than 100 points. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite fell. U.S. markets will be closed for Presidents' Day.
