China did not release critical data

In China, critical economic data that coincides with the Communist Party congress has not been released on the data calendar. Experts believe that the data was not released due to the possibility of bad data while the congress is ongoing. In China, where the 20th national congress of the Communist Party is ongoing, the National Statistical Institute announced that it has postponed the release of a series of data expected today. The statement on the institution's website did not state the reason for the postponement decision. The data expected to be released today was primarily third-quarter growth figures. The Chinese economy, which grew by 0.4 percent on an annual basis in the second quarter of the year, was estimated to have grown by 3.4 percent in the third quarter. At the same time, the country's September industrial production, retail sales and fixed investment data, as well as housing prices, were to be released. Bloomberg Chief Economist Tom Orlik stated that after the decision, everyone was talking about "why the data was postponed," but it would be more interesting to talk about "why they waited until the last minute" to postpone the data. According to Orlik, the fact that the party congress is ongoing, the data is likely to be bad, the statisticians are far down the organizational chart, growth data is not the government's top priority at the moment and therefore postponing it until the last minute may have played a role in this situation.
