China bans products from US chipmaker Micron

China said products from U.S. chipmaker Micron Technology posed “serious network security risks” and would ban key infrastructure operators from sourcing from the firm. “An investigation has found that Micron’s products pose significant security risks to China’s critical supply chain information infrastructure and pose serious network security risks that affect China’s national security,” the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) said in a statement on Sunday. Shares of Chinese chipmakers rose broadly after the Cyberspace Administration of China said it would ban key infrastructure operators from purchasing products from U.S. chipmaker Micron. Hong Kong-listed Hua Hong Semiconductor rose as much as 3.14 percent on Monday, while SMIC rose 2.64 percent. Other chipmakers in mainland China such as GigaDevice Semiconductor and Ingenic Semiconductor also gained as much as 3.74 percent and 8.08 percent respectively.
