Growth forecast from China's central bank governor

China’s central bank governor says economy’s second-quarter growth to be ‘relatively high’ China’s central bank governor Yi Gang said he expects China’s second-quarter gross domestic product to be “relatively high” thanks to a low base effect. Speaking in Shanghai last week, Yi said recent soft inflation pressures reflected a lagging rise in demand and he expected the consumer price index to gradually recover in the second half of the year. He reiterated his confidence that the economy is on track to meet the government’s full-year growth target of around 5%. Separately, China’s Securities Daily reported that economists on Thursday expected the central bank to introduce monetary easing measures by cutting the medium-term lending rate by 5 to 10 basis points. The economists added that the reserve requirement ratio would be made available in the third quarter of this year.
