Layoffs begin at Twitter

Social media company Twitter reportedly plans to begin layoffs on Friday. According to reports in the US press, Twitter management sent an email to employees regarding the issue. The email stated that employees would be informed about their employment status starting Friday morning. The email stated that this action was necessary for the company's continued success, and added, "In an effort to put Twitter on a healthy path, we will be going through a challenging process on Friday to reduce our global workforce." News that 7,500 employees would be laid off after Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk purchased Twitter for $44 billion had previously appeared in the press. Following the completion of the acquisition process, Musk first terminated Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Ned Segal, senior legal and policy manager Vijaya Gadde, and general counsel Sean Edgett.
