Germany's AI move against the US and China

Germany plans to double public support for artificial intelligence, which is increasingly used in daily life and workplaces, to 1 billion euros in the next 2 years. German Education and Research Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger announced the country's new action plan for artificial intelligence in the capital Berlin. Emphasizing that artificial intelligence is an important technology, Watzinger explained that this technology offers Germany enormous opportunities in terms of science, economic growth, prosperity, competitiveness and social added value. Stating that Germany and Europe should become leaders in a world "Powered by Artificial Intelligence," Watzinger said, "We have created an excellent foundation for the artificial intelligence ecosystem in Germany." Bettina Watzinger, arguing that they have a reliable and transparent artificial intelligence action plan, said, “This is a competitive advantage.” According to the action plan announced by Watzinger, Germany plans to establish 150 new research laboratories at universities for artificial intelligence research and expand data centers. To this end, the German Ministry of Education and Research will make payments to further develop the German federal government's artificial intelligence strategy together with other departments and stakeholders. Thus, the ministry plans to increase public support for the research, development and application of artificial intelligence in the country by approximately 2 times in the next 2 years, reaching 1 billion euros. On the other hand, according to a report by Stanford University, the private sector in the USA will spend $47.4 billion on artificial intelligence research in 2022, while the US government provided $3.3 billion in funding.
