Current account deficit message from Minister Şimşek

Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, stating that there was a boom in tourism, made the following assessment: "Turkey's current account deficit is expected to narrow significantly thanks to the slowdown in consumer credit growth and the sharp increase in tourism revenues." Şimşek, in a statement he made on the X social media platform, drew attention to the boom in tourism and noted the following: "It made its mark on the best July in history by hosting a remarkable number of foreign visitors with 7.1 million in one month. Turkey's current account deficit is expected to narrow significantly thanks to the slowdown in consumer credit growth and the sharp increase in tourism revenues (from a 12-month budget deficit of $56 billion in June to around $40 billion in December). This also supports a more stable lira."
