China's exports and imports continue to decline

China's exports and imports continued to decline in September after August. According to customs data released on Friday, China recorded a smaller-than-expected decline in exports in September compared to a year ago, while imports suffered losses. In US dollar terms, exports in September fell 6.2 percent compared to the same period last year, following an 8.8 percent decline in August. Economists had expected a 7.6 percent decline in exports. Imports also fell 6.2 percent in US dollar terms in September compared to a year ago. Economists had expected a 6.3 percent decline in imports. China's exports have fallen annually every month since May this year. The last positive pressure on imports on an annual basis came in September of last year. China's trade has declined this year due to weak global demand for Chinese goods and falling domestic demand.
