The minimum wage that millions have been waiting for has been determined. According to the statement of Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan, the net minimum wage for 2024 has increased by 49 percent to 17,02 TL. Türk-İş President Ergün Atalay, who said that they have filed a dissenting opinion on the decision, stated that their own demand is 18 thousand TL. The minimum wage that 7 million direct and indirect wage earners have been eagerly awaiting has been determined. According to the statement of Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan, the net minimum wage to be implemented in 2024 has become 17,02 TL. Thus, a 49 percent increase has been made to the net minimum wage. Employer support was announced as 700 TL. Türk-İş President Ergün Atalay spoke after Minister Işıkhan. Atalay said that their own demand is 18 thousand TL and that it should be updated twice a year. Atalay said that as long as inflation does not stop, the demand of employees once a year cannot be met. Atalay also stated that they have filed a dissenting opinion on the decision. Following the statement, President Erdoğan also made a statement from his X account, saying, "In 2024, the minimum wage will be implemented as a net 17,002 TL with a 49 percent increase. May it be beneficial for our country and nation." The gross minimum wage for 2024 was 20,002 TL. The cost to the employer was recorded as 23,502 TL. While the employee share of the SGK premium was 2,800 TL, the employer share was 3,100 TL. An intense marathon took place on the last day. The parties came together at the ministry after the meeting with President Erdoğan. Before the meeting, Türk-İş President Atalay had said that there was no consensus on the figure. Atalay had said, "The ministry will announce its proposal, and we will announce our proposal." Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan had visited Türk-İş within the scope of the work to determine the minimum wage figure that will be valid. Minister Işıkhan was accompanied by Labor General Manager Mehmet Baş on the visit. The Minimum Wage Determination Commission held its first meeting on December 11 and its second meeting on December 18. No increase rate was mentioned in the statements made after the meetings. The Minimum Wage Determination Commission normally holds four meetings for determination. However, if a consensus is reached, the minimum wage can be determined with fewer meetings.
