Libya resumes production at its largest oil field

Libya to restart oil production and exports from its largest oil field. Libya’s state-owned oil company resumed production at the country’s largest oil field on Sunday, ending a more than two-week hiatus after protesters shut the facility down due to fuel shortages. National Oil Corp. said in a brief statement that it had lifted force majeure at its Sharara oil field in the south of the country and resumed full production. The company imposed the closure on Jan. 7 after protesters from the desert town of Ubari, about 950 kilometers south of the capital Tripoli, shut down the field to protest fuel shortages. Operations at Sharara, run by a joint venture of NOC, Spain’s Repsol SA, France’s TotalEnergies SE, Austria’s OMV AG and Norway’s Equinor ASA, were halted by protesters demanding social and economic reforms including jobs, better services and a new refinery.
