Unfair Price Evaluation Board held its 7th meeting

The Unfair Price Assessment Board evaluated the results of the inspections conducted to detect price increases at its seventh meeting held this year. The Unfair Price Assessment Board held its 7th meeting of 2022. The results of the inspections conducted to detect price increases in basic needs were discussed at the meeting. The Board also decided to impose fines on markets that were assessed to have excessive price increases and stockpiling. The statement made by the Board is as follows; In the 7th meeting of the Unfair Price Assessment Board in 2022, the results of the inspections conducted by our Ministry on chain markets and other businesses operating at national and local levels in order to detect price increases in food products such as eggs, milk, pasta, yogurt, and cleaning materials such as detergents, soaps, and similar products, which are among the basic needs of our consumers, were discussed. In this context, it was decided to impose an administrative fine of 9,403,237.50 Turkish Lira in total on 21 businesses, including national markets, that were assessed to have excessive price increases and stockpiling. The Unfair Price Assessment Board, which includes representatives of the public, consumers and private sectors, aims to contribute to the healthy and orderly operation of free market conditions in the supply chain and to protect our consumers. In this regard, thousands of businesses and products have been inspected since the beginning of the pandemic, from dairy products to cereals, from diapers and baby food to cleaning products, from vegetables and fruits to bread, from fire equipment to whether VAT discounts are applied, from electronic marketplaces to vehicle stockpiling. In the inspections conducted to date, a total of 56,602,168.50 TL administrative fines have been imposed on businesses detected to engage in exorbitant price increases and stockpiling. Exorbitant price increases and stockpiling inspections continue without interruption.
