While the upward momentum in deposit interest rates continues, the decrease in the number of investors on the stock exchange has continued unabated. According to the Central Registry Agency data, as of December 2023, the number of stock investors decreased by 42 thousand 898 people in the week ending February 9 compared to the previous week. Thus, the number of stock investors decreased from the record level of 8 million 573 thousand 476 seen in October to 1 million 373 thousand 40 people on February 9. In the same week, the value of stocks increased from 11.41 trillion TL to 11.9 trillion TL. The number of investors on the stock exchange had exceeded the 2 million threshold in 2021 and the 3 million threshold by the end of 2022. In 2023, when public offerings accelerated, there were rapid increases in the number of investors every month. A record 54 companies made public offerings in 2023. However, the upward momentum in deposit interest rates, reflected by the tightening cycle towards the end of the year, opened a new path for investors in terms of returns.
