Historical loss in the CBRT balance sheet

The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) announced a loss of 818.2 billion TL in 2023. The bank's total assets in 2023 were recorded as 6.9 trillion TL. The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (2023) announced a loss in 2023 due to the impact of currency-protected deposits. According to the balance sheet data published in the Official Gazette, the TCMB recorded a loss of 818.2 billion TL in 2023. The bank had announced a profit of 72 billion TL in 2022. The valuation account item in the balance sheet was 817.8 billion TL. Developments in the valuation account due to the TCMB's foreign exchange position and currency-protected deposit difference payments indicated that the TCMB could announce a loss in this direction at the end of 2023. The TCMB's loss also seems important in terms of liquidity management. Since there will be no profit transfer from the TCMB to the Treasury, it is predicted that this situation will prevent liquidity expansion. In previous years, the CBRT had transferred profits from the profits to the Treasury as reserve funds. The 92nd Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) for the year 2023 will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. The agenda of the meeting includes the reading and discussion of the reports of the Bank Board and the Auditing Board for the 2023 accounting year, approval of the balance sheet and profit and loss account for 2023, the discharge of the members of the Bank Board and the Auditing Board, the election of two members of the Bank Board that will become vacant as of the end of April 30, 2024, and the election of one member of the Auditing Board that will become vacant as of the end of April 30, 2024.
