Kamala Harris narrowly ahead of Trump

The latest US election poll showed Kamala Harris leading Trump by two points. Following US President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll has shown Vice President Kamala Harris narrowly ahead of Republican Party candidate Donald Trump. Harris, who Biden announced his support for, received 44 percent of the vote, while former President Donald Trump received 42 percent. A poll conducted a week before President Biden’s withdrawal from the race showed Trump and Biden nearly tied, while a poll conducted in early July showed Trump leading by 1 percent. Harris quickly gained support from her party after Biden, 81, decided to withdraw from the race amid concerns and pressure from party members about Trump winning the election and whether Biden would be able to continue in office for another four years. According to a statement released by Harris’ campaign team, Vice President Harris has secured her candidacy by securing the support of a majority of the delegates who will decide the Democratic Party’s nominee at next month’s convention. Several Democratic leaders, including Senate and House leaders Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries, have also expressed their support for Harris. A poll of delegates conducted by the Associated Press found that Harris, who needs at least 1,976 votes to become the Democratic Party’s nominee, has the support of more than 2,500 delegates.
