Best year in automotive industry since 2017

According to the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD) data, automobile and light commercial vehicle sales exceeded 783 thousand in 2022. Although there was a limited increase compared to 2021, sector sales recorded their best performance in the last 5 years in 2022. It was seen that the tax base regulation introduced in November had a positive effect on sales. The total automobile and light commercial vehicle market in Turkey increased by 6.2 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year, reaching 783 thousand 283 units. Thus, the highest annual sales figure in the market since 2017 was reached. In 2017, automobile and light commercial vehicle sales exceeded 956 thousand. Although the highest number of the last 5 years was reached in 2022, it was also seen that sales fell behind the 10-year average. According to the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD) data, automobile sales in 2022 decreased by 5.5 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 592,660. The light commercial vehicle market increased by 8.6 percent, reaching 190,623 units. The data showed that automobile sales were able to reach the 2020 level.
