Xi to meet with Putin in Moscow

Chinese President Xi Jinping is preparing to meet with Vladimir Putin as part of his goal of taking on a mediating role for Russia-Ukraine peace. According to the Wall Street Journal, it was reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping could go to Moscow in mid-April or early May. The report, citing sources with knowledge of Xi's travel plans, stated that the Chinese President wants to take a more active role in the peace talks and reiterate his country's call not to use nuclear weapons. However, CNN's report stated that Russia conducted an intercontinental ballistic missile test while US President Joe Biden was visiting Ukraine and that the test was unsuccessful according to US officials. Putin, who delivered a "State of the Nation" speech yesterday, did not address the missile test allegations, but he dropped a bombshell by announcing that Russia would suspend its participation in the nuclear arms control agreement with the US. The agreement foresees a limit on the number of nuclear warheads that both countries can possess.
