Asian stocks mixed as debt ceiling deal reached

Asian markets mixed after U.S. reaches debt ceiling deal; Japanese stocks at highest since July 1990 Asia-Pacific markets were mixed after U.S. President Joe Biden and congressional leaders reached a tentative deal over the weekend to raise the debt ceiling. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.98%, while South Korea was closed for a holiday on Monday. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index continued to slide to new lows, down 0.12% this year. Mainland Chinese markets were more mixed, with the Shanghai Composite Index up 0.23% and the Shenzhen Component Index down 0.16%.
