Turkey's natural gas imports fell by 7.6 percent in August

Turkey’s natural gas imports decreased by 7.62 percent in August compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching approximately 3 billion 852 million cubic meters. According to the Energy Market Regulatory Authority’s “Natural Gas Market Sector Report” for August, approximately 3 billion 556 million cubic meters of the imports were carried out via pipelines, while 296 million cubic meters were carried out via liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities. During this period, natural gas imports via pipelines increased by approximately 0.86 percent, while LNG imports decreased by 54.04 percent. Total natural gas imports decreased by 7.62 percent in August compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching approximately 3 billion 852 million cubic meters. The largest amount of natural gas imports in August were from Russia with 2 billion 113 million cubic meters, followed by Iran with 904 million cubic meters, and Azerbaijan with 538 million cubic meters. During this period, imports from Russia increased by 1.54 percent, and imports from Iran increased by 0.74 percent. Gas imports from Azerbaijan decreased by 1.53 percent. - 5.6 percent increase in residential gas consumption During the period in question, natural gas consumption in the country decreased by 17.68 percent to 3 billion 593 million cubic meters. Natural gas consumption in organized industrial zones decreased by 6.66 percent to 333 million cubic meters. Natural gas consumption in power plants decreased by 21.8 percent to 1 billion 725 million cubic meters. The decrease in gas consumption in power plants was also a determining factor in the decrease in total consumption and imports. In August, natural gas consumption in residences increased by approximately 5.6 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, and was recorded as 318 million cubic meters. - Natural gas stock amount increased The natural gas stock amount in Turkey increased by 37.8 percent in August compared to the same month of the previous year, to 3 billion 713 million cubic meters. Of the natural gas stock, 3 billion 491 million cubic meters (94 percent) were in underground storage facilities, and 221 million cubic meters (5.97 percent) were in LNG terminals. During this period, the amount of stock in underground storage facilities increased by approximately 50.5 percent, while the amount of stock in LNG terminals decreased by 40.5 percent.
