US restricts export of Nvidia chips to some Middle Eastern countries

The U.S. administration has reportedly expanded the export restriction on some of Nvidia’s AI chips to other regions, including some countries in the Middle East, as well as China. Nvidia, one of the world’s largest chip maker, submitted a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for the quarter ending June 30, 2023. The filing noted that the company was informed by the U.S. administration of the need for additional licensing for the export of its A100 and H100 chips to certain customers, including some countries in the Middle East, and other regions. Nvidia’s filing did not specify which countries in the Middle East were affected by the export restriction on AI chips. The company said last year that U.S. authorities told it to stop exporting the chips in question to China.
