Business people representing 700 thousand companies in the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, Turkey’s largest chamber, are heading to the polls to elect their representatives who will serve on the chamber’s professional committees. The İTO presidential election will also be held on November 15. The voting process for members has begun for the professional committee and assembly member elections, which constitute the first phase of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (İTO) elections. Istanbul companies went to the polls at the Istanbul Fair Center (İFM) in Yeşilköy starting at 08:00 today to elect the professional committee and assembly members who will represent them for 4 years in the İTO, Turkey’s largest chamber. The 247 ballot boxes that will be opened starting at 17:00 today will determine the members of the 81 professional committees in the İTO and the names of these committees who will serve on the İTO Assembly. The İTO will determine the Chamber’s management through a two-stage election. With the election starting today, a total of 627 professional committee members of the İTO, 273 of whom will be assembly members, will be determined. Following the determination of the business people who will enter the ITO Assembly, the 21st term ITO Assembly will elect the Chamber Board of Directors on November 15. ITO President Şekib Avdagiç, in a statement he made after voting in the committee to which his company is affiliated, called on member company officials to vote in the election. Presidential election on November 15 According to the information received, with the finalization of the results, the ballot boxes for the next stage will be set up between 09:00 and 12:00 on November 15. The Chamber Assembly members who receive their certificates will elect the chairman of the board of directors, board members, disciplinary board members and TOBB delegates who will guide the next 4 years of ITO. The ITO Assembly President and Assembly Presidency Board will be determined in an election to be held afterwards. One in every 3 companies is an ITO member Celebrating its 140th anniversary this year, ITO is among the top 3 chambers in the world in terms of the number of members. ITO represents one in every 3 companies in Turkey on average. One third of the national income and nearly 50 percent of the total tax revenue and foreign trade volume are produced by ITO members.
