Minister Nebati: There is no money laundering investigation into Turkey

Treasury and Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati stated in a post on his Twitter account, "There is absolutely no question of opening a money laundering investigation against our country or putting our country on the FATF blacklist." Treasury and Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati made a statement regarding the recent discussions on money laundering investigations against Turkey. Minister Nebati made the following statements in a statement on his Twitter account: As the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, our fight against money launderers, financing of terrorism and all kinds of criminal organizations continues with determination today as it did yesterday with all our units. First of all, there is no criticism made by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) against our country regarding the asset amnesty regulations put into effect to date or clear errors and omissions. In the press release published by the FATF in October 2022, it was clearly accepted that our country has taken additional and positive steps on the issue. The statement stated that Turkey has made a high-level political commitment to developing the money laundering and financing of terrorism systematics and has taken additional steps in this direction. The declaration stated that our country has strengthened its human resources in the fight against these crimes, in addition to other issues, and has used internal freezing decisions in a manner compatible with our country’s risk profile. It has also been assessed that our country is largely compliant with all of the FATF standards, which are given special importance and referred to as the “Big 6”. Untrue claims that an international money laundering investigation will be launched against our country are not only unfounded, but also damaging to the reputation of the Republic of Turkey. A money laundering investigation against our country or our country being blacklisted by the FATF is absolutely out of the question. The commissioned report prepared by a political party representative and resembling a press release of terrorist organizations should be evaluated as a manifestation of the discomfort felt with our country’s fight against terrorism in every field and the successes achieved in these fights. All stakeholder organizations of our country continue their work in coordination within this scope.
