Democrats win Senate elections in US state of Georgia

In the midterm elections held in the US state of Georgia on November 8, after none of the senatorial candidates reached 50 percent, the winner of the election, which went to the second round, was Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock. According to unofficial results announced by the Associated Press (AP), Warnock won the race against his Republican opponent Herschel Walker. On the other hand, US President Joe Biden told reporters on his return from a visit to Arizona, “We will win Georgia.” Warnock received 49.4 percent of the vote and Walker 48.5 percent in the midterm elections held in the US on November 8. Since the 50 percent threshold must be passed according to state law, the elections went to a second round. The Georgia election does not affect control of the Senate Regardless of the result in the runoff election in the state, the Democrats had secured a majority as they hold 50 seats in the 100-member Senate thanks to US Vice President Kamala Harris’ tie-breaking vote. After Democrats take Georgia, the balance in the Senate will remain 51 Democrats and 49 Republicans.
