Foundation of Togg battery factory to be laid

The foundation of Turkey’s first battery factory will be laid tomorrow in the Gemlik district of Bursa, in a ceremony expected to be attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. According to a written statement from the Ministry of Industry and Technology, a construction start ceremony will be held tomorrow at 14:00 with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for the Siro Silk Road Clean Energy Storage Technologies Battery Development and Production Campus, which was established in partnership with Turkey’s global mobility brand Togg and the Chinese energy company Farasis to develop energy storage solutions. A critical step for Turkey According to the statement, Turkey is taking important steps to catch up with the change and transformation in the automotive sector globally. After Togg’s T10X model rolled off the mass production line and hit the streets, a critical step is being taken regarding the battery, which is one of the most important components of electric vehicles. Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank, whose views were included in the statement, announced that investments in Bursa continue after Togg starts mass production at its production base in Gemlik, and that the foundations of Turkey’s first battery factory will be laid here. Stating that the battery factory, which will bring important capabilities to Turkey and is the emblem of the Century of Turkey, will also provide a significant return in terms of employment for Turkey and Bursa, Varank noted the following: "Our President will visit Bursa and Gemlik on Monday. We will lay the foundations of another very important investment for Turkey. We will lay the foundations of another emblem of the 'Century of Turkey'. We will lay the foundations of Turkey's first battery factory. This technology will bring important capabilities to Turkey. It will make significant contributions to our country's economy. It will also provide a significant return for Bursa and Turkey in terms of employment." Value-added production Varank pointed out that the key to value-added production and value-added development are these types of investments and said, "We will continue these investments from now on as we have done so far. An important industrial city like Bursa will more than get its share of these investments. The investments we make here will develop not only this city but all of Turkey." The Siro Battery Development and Production Campus, which will be established on an area of 607 thousand square meters next to Togg’s production base in Gemlik, is planned to be completed by the end of 2024. The campus, where cell, module and package production will be carried out, will produce the latest generation, high energy density battery cells. With the Siro Battery Development and Production Campus, Turkey will become an important integrated energy storage center in Europe and the Middle East in this field. Thus, Turkey will have the cell development and production competence found in only a few countries. Siro, whose annual production capacity will reach 20 GWh by 2031, will own the intellectual property of all the products and solutions it develops. Siro will provide stationary energy storage services for industrial applications, marine vehicles and renewable energy to Turkey as well as neighboring countries.
