Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow. Minister Fidan said that the Black Sea Grain Initiative efforts will continue. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow. Making assessments after the meeting, Fidan stated that opportunities that may arise for taking serious steps towards reviving the grain initiative are being carefully examined and that the United Nations in particular is carrying out important activities in this regard, and said, "Our colleagues are in intensive contact with (UN Secretary General Antonio) Guterres and his team. There is currently a process that is trying to better understand and meet Russia's position and demands in particular." Foreign Minister Fidan stated that there are ongoing studies on what can be done to prevent the problems and lessons learned from the first implementation period of the initiative from being repeated in this period. Lavrov stated that Western countries did not keep their promises to the Russian side within the scope of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, and said, "When the conditions in the package agreement made with the United Nations are met, we will return to the grain agreement." Stating that Russia is ready to increase its natural gas supply to Turkey, Lavrov said, "Our strategic projects are being developed, especially in the energy sector, which has traditionally been the locomotive of our relations."
